  • June 28, 2021

Adrenal glands are portion of the endocrine system that produces hormones into the blood stream. Hormones are essential in many body functions, including metabolic processes, sexual development, puberty, and anxiety. There are two adrenal glands, one at the top of the kidneys. They are molded like triangles, each about 1⁄2 inch high and 3 inches in length. Each gland has two sections f it. The medulla is of the adrenal gland. It produces hormones termed catecholamines, which include adrenaline and noradrenaline. These "stress hormones" increase alertness, strength, and speed in emergency situations. They also affect your heart rate, blood pressure, and sweating. The outer portion of the adrenal gland is named the cortex. It produces hormones that affect blood pressure, metabolism, and how the body requires fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
